CARROLLTON, Ga. – After eight straight Gulf South Conference games, the UWG soccer team and head coach Stacey Balaam will welcome the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes to University Field for a non-conference showdown at 5 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
UWG is currently 4-5 on the season and 4-4 in GSC play. The only other non-conference game the Wolves have played this season was a 3-2 double-overtime loss to North Georgia in the season opener. The Wolves were set to host Georgia College in early September but the game was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma.
West Georgia is coming off of a 2-1 Sunday afternoon win over in-state rival Shorter. Freshman Nikki Conte scored the opening goal of that game on an assist from Francessca Ellis. Junior Rachael Lane scored the second goal of the game that proved to be the difference.
Ellis leads the squad in points now with eight while Conte moved into a second place tie with junior Katie Mitchell with five on the season after a three-point performance Sunday.
Georgia Southwestern is 0-7 on the season, with three of those losses coming in Peach Belt Conference play. The Hurricanes have scored only three goals all season, and currently have a 3.29 goals against average.
Kickoff for Wednesday’s game is set for 5 p.m. from University Field at the UWG Athletic Complex.
