Carrollton, GA – Gulf South Conference basketball coaches are forecasting a return to the GSC Tournament for the UWG Wolves in 2017-18.
That projection was announced Thursday as the league office in Birmingham released the annual GSC Preseason Poll. UWG received 86 points, landing them in eighth place in the balloting conducted among the league’s 14 head coaches.
Christian Brothers was tabbed as the GSC’s preseason favorite with 158 points, and eight-of-14 first place votes. Valdosta State, Alabama-Huntsville, and Delta State round out the poll’s top five, followed by West Florida, league newcomers Montevallo, North Alabama, and UWG. Following the Wolves were Union, Lee, West Alabama, Mississippi College, Shorter, and Auburn-Montgomery.
Head coach Michael Cooney has his new look Wolves set for the beginning of preseason practice this weekend. Sunday, October 15, is the first allowable date by the NCAA for full practice by Division II teams.
UWG is set to play Division I Kennesaw State in an exhibition game in Kennesaw on Sunday, November 5. Tip time is 4:30 p.m. The first official game is set for Saturday, November 11, at 7 p.m., as the Wolves play Miles in Cleveland, Tenn., as part of the GSC-SIAC Challenge.
