CARROLLTON, Ga. – West Georgia stormed back from a 4-0 deficit on Sunday afternoon in Game 2 of the series with the North Alabama Lions, but the Lions protected Mike Lane Field, winning in extra innings with a walk-off single in the 10th, beating the Wolves 5-4 in Gulf South Conference play. In the nightcap, UNA completed a three-game sweep of the Wolves with a 4-1 victory.

Game 1 - UNA 5, UWG 4 (10 innings)
For the second-straight game, the Wolves and Lions found themselves locked in a pitcher’s duel early in the game. Greyson McLeod allowed a run in the bottom of the first on two hits and a walk, but over the next three innings, allowed just two hits in total. The Wolves struggled early against UNA starter Shane Priest as well, collecting just four hits and no runs in the first five innings of the day.

North Alabama added a second run in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of a pair of UWG miscues to push UNA center fielder T.J. Lockett across for the second time in the game. The Wolves struggled to get more than one person on board in any one inning over the first seven, and UNA added another run in the bottom of the seventh. The first two runners of the inning reached for the Lions, then a Brandt Holland single scored the next run, making it 3-0 UNA. The Lions added another run in the inning, making it 4-0 heading to the eighth.

In the eighth inning, the Wolves made things very interesting at Mike Land Field, as Brian Dansereau led off the inning with a triple. Ben Utley then singled to bring home Dansereau and also to extend his season-long hitting streak, as Utley has had a hit in 14-straight games. Logan Taylor then followed with a single before Price Peters reached on an error, loading the bases.

Nick Poskey then walked to bring home the second run of the game for the Wolves, making it 4-2. Two batters later, with two outs after a double play that brought home Taylor, Gabe Wurtz doubled, bringing home Peters and tying the game at 4-4. The score remained tied until the bottom of the 10th, when the Lions put together three hits in the frame, including the walk-off single from T.J. Lockett.

Game 2 - UNA 4, UWG 1
Hits were tough to find in the second game for West Georgia, as UNA starter Lane Wallace tossed a no-hitter into the fifth inning and allowed just two hits on the day to take down the Wolves and complete the sweep.

UWG starter Andres Fernandez was strong on the day, tossing a complete game in the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out eight batters  and walking just two. North Alabama scored one in the second and another in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead on the Wolves.

Wallace was motoring along with a no-hitter until Gabe Wurtz led off the top of the fifth inning with a home run, breaking up the no-hit bid and cutting the North Alabama lead in half. That stuck until the third hitter for UNA in the bottom of the fifth, as Kyle Hubbuch delivered a one-out, two-run blast to give UNA a commanding 4-1 advantage.

West Georgia returns to action on Tuesday and Wednesday at 5 p.m. as a part of a five-game homestand. The Wolves will be taking on the North Georgia Nighthawks on Tuesday evening, followed by the Clark Atlanta Panthers on Wednesday at Cole Field
