CARROLLTON, Ga. – After getting back in the win column on Wednesday, the UWG softball team looks to continue that momentum into the weekend against Valdosta State, taking on the Blazers in a three-game series at University Field.

Once again, weather has altered the weekend schedule, with the teams set to begin the series with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and concluding the weekend with a 12 p.m. single game on Saturday.

The Wolves most recently won a pair of games over non-conference foe Augusta on Wednesday, getting back above .500 at 21-20 and snapping an eight game skid in the process. Head coach Al Thomas will look for more of the same from an offense that scored 19 runs in two games on Wednesday, and will need that against a tough Valdosta State team that comes into the weekend at 31-8 on the season.

Both Lexie Stohr and Sydney Smith had four hits against Augusta, while Madison Chambers and Mallory Walker each hit home runs against the Jags. For Chambers, it was her team-leading seventh of the season, while Walker slugged her third. Walker's might have been the biggest of the day, ending the 12-2 game early in the sixth inning with a grand slam.

Both Zoie LaVergne and Lindsye Jefferson earned wins in the doubleheader, while Katie Foote recorded her first career save. The Wolves will need their pitching to be sharp this weekend against the VSU lineup featuring Jessica Mohl. Mohl is the Blazers’ leading hitter with a .455 average with 55 hits. Of those, 26 have gone for extra-bases as Mohl has 16 doubles, six triples and four homers, all while leading the Blazers in RBI with 34. Taylor Hartenbach leads VSU in homers with nine, and is second in RBI with 33.

VSU relies heavily on a pair of arms in the circle. Kasie Johnson in 9-3 with a 1.94 ERA in 16 starts this season while Kathryn Carter has started 15 games and posts an 11-3 record with a 2.51 ERA.
