OXFORD, Ala. - Head coach Ryan Bailey got to see his new Wolves for the first time on Friday afternoon as the West Georgia men's cross country team ran to a sixth place finish at the JSU Strut's Season Opener at Oxford Lakes in Oxford, Ala.
Freshman Isaac Hernandez made a big splash in his first collegiate action as he finished in 19th place, notching a top-20 finish with a final time of 16:35.70 in the 5k men's race.
A pair of returners took 34th and 35th for West Georgia as Thomas Adkins finished with a time of 17:15.30 and Jacob Giammarco finished just behind him with a time of 17:21.80.
Walt Douglas was the next UWG finisher across the line as he made his UWG debut with a 43rd place finish with a time of 17:36.20.
Newcomers Jonah Negusse and Parks Turner were the final two runners to finish as Negusse finished in 54th place with a time of 18:25.50. Turner ran the race in a time of 19:22.00, good for a 62nd place finish for the freshman.
The Wolves continue their 2017 schedule next Friday as they take on Division I talent at the Stan Sims Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State in Cartersville, Ga.
