Carrollton, GA - The West Georgia Wolves baseball team picked up win number two on the year Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Augusta Jaguars 8-5 at Cole Field.

Early on it looked as if there was a pitching duel on hand as neither team scored through the first two innings, but UWG broke through with a single run in the third on a balk by Augusta.

The bottom of the fourth was the big inning for West Georgia as they picked up three runs in the frame. It started with a Ryan Raper single, followed by walks from Christopher Michals and Tyler Garner to load the bases with no outs. Nasser Williamson then drove in Raper on a groundout to shortstop. Ben Utley delivered once again for UWG with a two RBI single that pushed the lead to 4-0.

Turner Edwards was fantastic through the first four innings of the game, giving up no runs and only two hits. He run into trouble in the top of the fifth as Augusta used four hits to pick up three runs in the frame. Colton Duttweiler relieved Edwards in the fifth to pick up the final out of the inning.

West Georgia picked up a single run in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Christopher Michals. They then added two more runs in the sixth as Price Peters hit West Georgia's first homerun of the year, driving in two runs. The Wolves final run came on a safety squeeze bunt by Nasser Williamson in the seventh inning.

Augusta picked up single runs in the sixth and eighth innings. Andrew Marshall relieved Duttweiler with one out in the seventh. Marshall threw 1.2 innings, giving up only two hits and one earned run.

Senior Mitchell Mannino picked up his first save of the year, striking out two batters and giving up one walk in the ninth inning.

Ben Utley and Artemis Kadkhodaian led UWG with three hits each. Utley and Price Peters each had two RBI.

West Georgia looks to complete the sweep tomorrow, as they will take on Augusta at 1:00 p.m. EST at Cole Field. Live stats will be available at uwgsports.com, with updates available via @UWGAthletics on Twitter.
