CARROLLTON, Ga. - Head coach Skip Fite and the UWG Baseball team are off to a roaring start in 2018, as the Wolves are 7-0 to open the season. But West Georgia will face a huge road test on Wednesday afternoon, taking on the Georgia College Bobcats in Milledgeville at 3 p.m.

This will be the second meeting in two weeks between the Wolves and the Bobcats, as the two teams met last Tuesday in Carrollton, with West Georgia taking that contest by an 8-4 margin. As has become the norm for West Georgia through the first seven games of the year, the Wolves had a dramatic finish in order for last Tuesday's home opener. In that contest, the Wolves fell behind by a 4-1 count, but scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined to take the 8-4 victory.

That was one of four victories against teams ranked in the preseason national top-25 last week, as the Wolves swept West Alabama in a three-game non-conference warmup. In all, West Georgia outscored their opponents in four games last week by a combined 29-4.

Junior Cade Marlowe continues to impress at the plate, coming into Wednesday's contest hitting .500 on the season with a team-high 10 RBI and 14 hits. He has also been very patient at the plate, and is second on the team in walks so far this season with seven. Senior catcher Price Peters leads the Wolves in that category with eight walks on the year, and he and Logan Taylor have the only home runs for West Georgia through the first seven games. Both are hitting about .350 thus far, and the trio of Marlowe, Peters and Taylor have combined for 13 of the Wolves' 22 extra-base hits this year.

Sophomore Jordan Schmits, who transferred to UWG from South Alabama this year, will likely get his second-straight start against the Bobcats. Schmits went four innings last week, allowing three earned runs and four runs in his first start at UWG. Wes Bucher completed the game against Georgia College at Cole Field last week, allowing no runs on four hits in five innings of work with four strikeouts to move to 2-0 on the year.
