CARROLLTON, Ga. – The 2019 softball season is rapidly approaching and UWG softball head coach Al Thomas has finalized his schedule for the new season.

 

Beginning his third season at West Georgia, Thomas and the Wolves face a tough slate of games in 2019. The schedule features 56 regular season game with 19 of those coming at University Softball Field in Carrollton.

 

The schedule features eight teams that were ranked or received votes in the NFCA Preseason Coach’s Poll. Opponents on the 2019 schedule had a combined record of 815-618 in 2018.

 

The Wolves will open 2019 the same way they opened 2018, at a large tournament in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The season begins on February 1 as West Georgia takes on Tuskegee at 1:30 p.m. and Mobile at 4 p.m. The tournament also features games against Lander, Spring Hill, and fourth-ranked Saint Leo.

 

The very next weekend, West Georgia heads to Clearwater, Florida for another tournament featuring five games. The Wolves will face a pair of ranked teams in that tournament, third-ranked Southern Arkansas and number 22 Palm Beach Atlantic. Other games that weekend include matchups with Indianapolis, Tampa, and Harding.

 

West Georgia hosts their first game at University Softball Field on February 13 as UWG takes on Georgia College in a midweek doubleheader at 4 p.m. That weekend, the Wolves open Gulf South Conference play by hosting Shorter for a three-game series. The Wolves and Hawks begin play on Saturday, February 16 in a 1 p.m. doubleheader and conclude the series on the 17th at 1 p.m.

 

The next home action also comes in GSC play as West Georgia hosts West Alabama on March 1-2. The remainder of March also brings GSC opponents Alabama Huntsville and Lee to University Softball Field.

 

Following an off weekend to begin April, West Georgia will travel to Auburn-Montgomery, Young Harris, and Miles before their final home series, hosting Union on April 20-21. The regular season concludes with a trip to in-state rival Valdosta State for a three-game series on April 27-28.

 

The postseason is set for May 2-4 as the top-seed in the league will host the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
