CARROLLTON, Ga. – The wait is nearly over at the University of West Georgia and the Wolves soccer team will be the first to officially kick off the fall 2019 season with a 2 p.m. road contest at Young Harris on Thursday, September 5.

West Georgia, coming off of a 7-9-3 season, open up away from Carrollton for the second straight season, and to begin 2019, third year head coach Stacey Balaam and the Wolves take on the Mountain Lions who went 6-9-1 in 2018.

It’s just the second all-time meeting between the two schools, with UWG winning the lone previous matchup 1-0 back in 2011.

The UWG defense and goalkeeper Jackie Donaldson will have to key on Young Harris’ Miranda Simpson who is the Mountain Lions’ leading returning scorer. A season ago, the now junior scored four goals and had two assists for 10 points which was third-best on the team.

Last season, Young Harris scored just 19 goals while West Georgia scored 32 including nine from All-GSC performer Jazmine Santiago.

Kickoff from the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field is slated for 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon as the Wolves open the 2019 campaign.
