CARROLLTON, Ga. - The West Georgia Wolves ran into a tough opponent in the opener of the GSC/SSC Crossover on Friday afternoon, as the Wolves fell 3-0 to the Tampa Spartans in Hoover, Ala. 

Freshman middle Tierra White led the UWG effort with 13 kills in the match and Emilee Harris led the way on the back line with 11 digs. The Wolves fall to 11-8 on the year while the Spartans move to 12-6 with the result. 

First Set - Tampa 25, West Georgia 16
West Georgia came out swinging early against the defending national champions, building a quick 4-1 lead. The two teams battled to a draw at 8-8 before the Spartans went on a 5-1 run to open up a 13-9 lead. Tampa rode that wave, continuing to build on their lead until the final point, where UWG lost the first set 25-16. Tierra White had three kills in the set to lead the UWG offensive effort and Emilee Harris had three digs to lead on the defensive side of the net. 

Second Set - Tampa 25, West Georgia 14
The Wolves came out hot again in the second set, with White picking up three kills for three of the first four points of the set for either team. West Georgia, just like in the first set, built a 4-1 lead, but Tampa would storm right back to tie the set at 5-5. A 14-7 run followed that gave the Spartans a commanding 19-12 lead, and Tampa went up in the match 2-0 with a 25-14 victory. White was solid in the set, delivering on six kills. 

Third Set - Tampa 25, West Georgia 19
In the third set, the Wolves held an early advantage, leading 12-9 at the midway point of the set. But a 9-1 run from the Spartans gave Tampa a commanding 18-13 lead. The Wolves fought back, scoring six of the final 11 points, but the Spartans closed out the win with a 25-19 victory. 

The Wolves will be back in action on Saturday with two matches at the GSC/SSC Crossover. West Georgia (11-8) will take on Eckerd at 2:30 p.m. (EST), followed by an 8:00 p.m. matchup with Lynn to close out the weekend.
