CARROLLTON, Ga. - A second-straight lopsided victory for the West Georgia Wolves caught the attention of the American Football Coaches Association this week, as the Wolves jumped seven spots in this week's poll to 17th place.

Head coach David Dean and his Wolves received votes in the preseason Coaches' Poll, then after a big win over Fort Valley State in Week 1, moved into the rankings in 25th place. Then this week, a few losses among the teams ranked above UWG and a 45-7 victory over Miles gave West Georgia the seven-spot jump over teams like Colorado State-Pueblo and Azusa Pacific, both of which were in the top-10 last weekend.

The rankings this week point out the guantlet that stands in front of the Wolves over the next few weeks, as West Georgia will face-off with 24th-ranked Delta State on the road this weekend. Then UWG returns home for the 2017 Homecoming game against 16th-ranked Albany State in the final non-conference game of the year on September 23. That opens a three-game homestand featuring Albany State, 10th-ranked North Alabama (Sept. 30) and Valdosta State (Oct. 7), a team that received votes in this week's poll.

West Georgia was ranked 24th in last week's poll, which is routinely released on Tuesday afternoon.
