CARROLLTON, Ga. – A pair of teams atop the Gulf South Conference standings will kick off 2018 in a big way in Jackson, Tennessee on Tuesday night as the UWG women’s basketball team will take on Union on the road in a 7 p.m. contest.

The Wolves, who enter the game 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the Gulf South Conference, travel to Fred Delay Gymnasium to take on a 10-1 Union team who is also unbeaten at 3-0 in league play.

On paper, it’s Union with the big numbers, averaging 86.5 points per game as a team, and shooting the ball at over 50 percent from the field as a team, including a 40.5 percent clip from the three-point line. Union’s top scorer is also the Gulf South Conference’s leading scorer at 24.5 points per game.

Shumpert is also second in the league in steals per game, averaging 2.6 steals per game, but is bested out by Aysha Harris who leads the league with a 3.0 steal per game average.

For the Wolves’ offense, senior Kayla Carter continues to lead the way as she has done all year, averaging 14.3 points per contest. Harris is the only other West Georgia player averaging double figures, chipping in with 10.9 per game.

It’s the 13th meeting all-time between the Wolves and Bulldogs with Union leading the all-time series 10-2. The two teams split the season series last year with each team winning their respective home game, including a double-overtime victory for the Wolves at The Coliseum.

West Georgia is coming off of a close, 67-62 loss at home to Point which wrapped up non-conference play and snapped a six-game win streak for the Wolves. Seven of the Wolves’ eleven games this season have been decided by five or fewer points, with the Wolves winning four of those seven contests.

The Wolves and Bulldogs will tip-off at 7 p.m. EST on Tuesday, January 2 in Memphis, Tenn. Live Stats and live video are available at the above links.
