CARROLLTON, Ga. - A dynasty continued Saturday evening in Orlando, Fla., at The Arena in Disney's Wide World of Sports, as the UWG Coed Cheer squad won a fifth-straight title at UCA Nationals.
The championship was the 22nd in the storied history of West Georgia cheerleading, dating back to the 2001 UCA Nationals under then head coach Sherry Cooney. Now, the program is in the hands of Nicole Nichols, who led the Wolves to a sweep of the All-Girl and Coed championships last season, and has now guided West Georgia to five straight championships in Coed Division II at the UCA Nationals.
All-Girl cheer finished second in this year's Division I standings, falling just behind Morehead State and besting Sacramento State and the University of Delaware, among others. But the All-Girl squad did bring home the hardware on Friday evening, as the partner stunt teams put together an outstanding performance, finishing first and second in the Partner Stunt Championship and winning the first title in school history for that discipline.
