Carrollton, GA – Postseason honors continued Monday for a UWG Wolves basketball standout. Marquill Smith was named a first team member of the 2018 Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association All-South Region Basketball Team.

Smith, a junior from Miami Gardens, Fla., was chosen for the honor in balloting conducted among sports information directors from schools within the region. Previously, Smith also was voted to a first-team berth on the All-Gulf South Conference Team.

Smith paced the Gulf South Conference in scoring during the 2017-18 season, averaging 23.1 points per game. He also was the league’s fourth-best rebounder, pulling down 8.6 caroms per contest. Beyond those numbers, Smith finished the year fifth in the GSC in field goal percentage, and was seventh in three pointers made per game.

The GSC is well-represented on the All-South Region team. Beau Justice of Valdosta State and Darryl Tucker of West Florida also were honored with first-team status. Rounding out the first team are Elvar Fridriksson of Barry, and Turius Walker of Morehouse.

Monday’s honor earns Smith the opportunity for even higher accolades. He joins all-region players from around the country on the ballot for the D2CCA All-America Team, which will be announced next Monday.
