CARROLLTON, Ga. – The series finale did not go as planned for the UWG softball team on Saturday afternoon as the Wolves fell 14-3 to the rival Valdosta State Blazers at University Field.
The Wolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring a single run in the first inning on a Peyton Stallworth RBI single and adding two runs in the second on a Trinity Kirkland double and a Sydney Smith groundout.
Things were going well for the Wolves until VSU exploded for 14 unanswered run, including 12 runs on 10 hits including four home runs all while sending 17 batters to the plate in the fourth inning. The Blazers got two more in the fifth inning on another home run.
UWG used four pitchers on the day, and offensively, had just seven hits and the three runs.
The loss drops the Wolves to 22-21 overall and 9-18 in Gulf South Conference play. The Wolves play next at home on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Miles in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at University Field.
