CARROLLTON, Ga. – Once again, UWG softball standout Alley Taylor has been honored, as today Taylor was announced as one of eight finalists for the Schutt Sports D2 National Freshman of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Each region is represented by one freshman, with the winner of the award being announced at the NCAA Division II Softball Championship Banquet in Salem, Virginia on May 23.
Taylor’s freshman season was impressive and garnered attention from the conference, region, and now the nation. The Coral Springs, Florida native became the second player in school history to hit over .400, leading the team with a .401 batting average. Taylor slugged five home runs, had 12 doubles, and three triples and set a single-season school record with 33 stolen bases.
Those numbers landed Taylor on the All-Gulf South Conference First Team and named her the GSC Freshman of the Year. Additionally, Taylor has been named All-South Region by the NFCA and D2CCA.
