CARROLLTON, Ga. – Riding high on a three-match winning streak, the West Georgia volleyball program heads to the state of Alabama this weekend, taking on the Alabama Huntsville Chargers and the Montevallo Falcons in a two-match road swing on Friday and Saturday.

THE SCHEDULE
The Wolves hope to continue their recent surge on the road this weekend, taking on Alabama Huntsville on Friday evening at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday matchup at Montevallo, with the first serve set for 3 p.m.

THE RECORDS
West Georgia crosses the midpoint of the 2018 season currently in seventh place in GSC standings, with the top six teams advancing to the Gulf South Conference tournament at the conclusion of the regular season. Overall on the year, the Wolves are 10-6, with a 5-4 mark against Gulf South Conference competition after a pair of big victories over Christian Brothers and Union this past weekend at The Coliseum.

UAH is one spot ahead of the Wolves, tied for fifth with Valdosta State with a 6-3 conference record. West Georgia faced UAH earlier in the season during the UAH Tournament, where the Wolves defeated the Chargers 3-1. Montevallo enters the weekend in third place in the GSC standings with a 16-3 overall record and a 7-2 mark against league opponents. 

UWG OFFENSE
In West Georgia’s most recent three matches, the Wolves have had a hitting percentage over .240. The UWG offense is led by McKenna Wharton and Madi Fleming thus far on the year. Wharton is averaging 3.38 kills per set with 189 in total while Fleming has 471 assists on the year, which puts her tied in the record books with 1,467 career assists with former West Georgia volleyball setter Teresa Paini. 

UWG DEFENSE
The Wolves' defense was strong over the past two weeks, with a total of 29 blocks and 187 digs. Leading for the Wolves with total blocks is Niah Bruce, who averages 0.85 blocks per set on the year, followed closely by Kaylyn Buchanan with 0.74. Senior libero Anna Metzler leads the team with an average of 3.78 digs per set, and has 155 total digs on the season, followed by McKenna Wharton with 127.

The Wolves will be in Huntsville, Alabama to take on the Chargers on Friday, where the match will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday will be a travel day to Montevallo for a 3 p.m. start before returning back home.
