MOBILE, Ala. – All five Wolves posted scores in the 70s on Sunday at the Gulf South Conference Championships as West Georgia men’s golf team shot a 299 in the opening round at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove to sit in a fifth place tie.

 

Senior standout Sam Jones and freshman Rece Moore led the way with 74s on Sunday. Jones made three birdies and five bogeys on the day while Moore made two birdies, a pair of bogeys and a double. The pair begins tomorrow’s second round in a 13th place tie.

 

Just behind Jones and Moore was another freshman Blake Kollin, who shot a three-over 75 after making a double bogey on his first hole. Kollin is currently in a 21st place tie.

 

It was first round 76s for Lucas Mota and Ethan Jones as they find themselves in a 24th place tie heading into the second round.

 

The team is tied for fifth alongside Mississippi College. West Florida leads after shooting an ever par 288 as a team on Monday. UWG is 11 strokes behind the leaders with 36 holes to play.

 

The second round begins tomorrow morning at the Crossings course at the RTJ Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove.
