CARROLLTON, Ga. – The kickoff for the West Georgia Wolves’ 2019 football season is now just three months, and one day away. Thursday, West Georgia announced the final scheduled kickoff times for the upcoming season.
UWG fans can purchase or renew their season tickets now at uwgsports.com/tickets and click on the season tickets link. Seats that remain available from 2018 season ticket holders will be released to the general public on July 1. This season marks a reduction in the price of season tickets, as Reserved Chairback seats are $100 for the 2019 campaign. New for this fall will be a four-game Gulf South Conference general admission season pass, available for $35.
Five home games highlight the Wolves’ 2019 schedule, which begins September 21 when the Albany State Golden Rams visit University Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff on the first-ever UWG Family and Friends Night. This is the first of two-night games on the home schedule. The other is the regular season finale on November 16 vs. Valdosta State.
UWG’s other three home dates this fall are set for afternoon kickoffs. Shorter’s visit on October 5 will kick off at 12:00, while the October 19 visit from West Florida, and the November 2 contest vs. Mississippi College are scheduled for 2 p.m. The West Florida game is UWG’s Homecoming, while the Mississippi College game will include induction ceremonies for the UWG Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
West Georgia begins the new campaign on September 7 in Salisbury, N.C., vs. Catawba in a 12:00-noon kickoff. This marks the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Wolves and Indians have played on opening day. One week later is a trip back up I-85, this time to Gaffney, S.C. for a 7 p.m. kickoff vs. Limestone. Also at night will be the Wolves’ September 28 visit to Florida Tech, as will the October 12 game at North Greenville. UWG’s remaining two road games are set for afternoon kicks; October 26 at West Alabama (2:00) and November 9 at Delta State at 3:00.
West Georgia has a strong contingent of returning talent and should again be a playoff contender in 2019. Heading the Wolves’ returnees on defense are All-America linebacker Korie Rogers and All-Super Region 2 defensive end Chad Price. Offensively, All-Gulf South Conference quarterback Willie Candler returns for his senior season and is on the brink of owning most of the UWG’s career passing records. Also, sophomore receiver and return specialist LaPerion Perry is back after gaining All-America status in 2018.
