Carrollton, GA – West Georgia Wolves kicking specialist Omar Cervantes was named Monday as GSC Special Teams Player of the Week. Cervantes was selected for his performance in UWG’s 44-34 win over Shorter.

A sophomore from Fort Valley, Cervantes had his biggest day of the year in Saturday’s win. He was a perfect three-for-three on field goals, connecting from 40, 23, and 32 yards. He was also five-of-five on points after touchdown, had three kickoffs for touchback, and punted once for 46 yards.

Monday’s honor marks the third time in Cervantes’ career that he has been named the GSC’s top special teams performer. He captured the distinction twice a year ago for his performances in wins over West Alabama and Mississippi College.

Cervantes’ weekly honors a year ago helped him earn a variety of postseason honors. He was named All-Gulf South Conference First Team, All-Super Region 2 First Team, and Honorable Mention All-America.

West Georgia, now 3-2, returns to action this Saturday vs. North Greenville. Kickoff time is set for 7 p.m. at Younts Stadium in Tigerville, S.C.
