CARROLLTON, Ga. - As the 2019 National Football League Draft closed on Saturday evening, a pair of West Georgia standouts stepped into the spotlight of the NFL by signing undrafted free agent deals. On Sunday, offensive lineman Quentin Stanford became the next in line, receiving an invite to the 49ers Rookie Mini-Camp.
Stanford was a four-year standout for he Wolves, seeing his first start at left tackle as a true freshman when another NFL invitee, Dom Robertson, was unable to play. Since then, Stanford is a two-time All-American, anchoring an offensive line that paved the way for Devontae Jackson to set multiple UWG rushing records.
Devontae Jackson inked his deal with the Denver Broncos while Malik Henry will be in rookie camp with the San Francisco 49ers after signing with the west coast team.
Jackson will likely be a first-ballot Hall of Famer at West Georgia after crushing the school rushing record books this past year. Jackson was named as an All-American by three different organizations in 2018. Jackson capped his impressive UWG career on the field this fall by leading the Gulf South Conference in both rushing (1,320 yards) and all-purpose yards (1,557 yards). He set UWG career records in both categories and ended his collegiate career as the most prolific kickoff return specialist in West Georgia history.
Jackson's next stop will be the Denver Broncos Rookie Minicamp on May 10-12, followed by Week 1 of OTAs on May 13, 14, and 16.
Henry transferred to West Georgia in the fall of 2018 and quickly became one of the top receivers in the Gulf South Conference. He played in nine games as a senior, hauling in 30 passes for 407 yards and seven touchdowns on the year. As West Georgia was a frequent stop for NFL scouts during the 2018 season, the 49ers had plenty of opportunities to see what Henry could do in person, then he was extremely impressive at the UWG Pro Day in March. That sparked interest from several teams, including the 49ers, who worked out Henry in a private workout during the past month.
For Henry and Stanford, the journey to the NFL begins next weekend in the San Francisco Rookie Minicamp on May 3-5, and OTAs for the 49ers begin on May 20.
