UWG Announces Coaching Change in Running Programs

CARROLLTON, Ga. - On Wednesday, University of West Georgia Director of Athletics Daryl Dickey announced that coach Tim Brooks will not return for the 2017-18 athletic year. Brooks closes out his coaching career at UWG after seven seasons at the helm of the Cross Country program and four years of building the Women's Track and Field team.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank Coach Brooks for the job he has done with our running programs," Dickey said. "He has developed a championship-level program in the world of Track and Field and his cross country teams have consistently represented the University of West Georgia with a high degree of character on and off the field."

Dickey continued, "We are especially grateful for the way that he stepped in to restart the Women's Track and Field programs, and his teams have set the bar very high for the teams that follow. "

His teams have routinely been ranked among the best in the South Region in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, and over the past two seasons, the women's track and field team has produced multiple athletes who have set provisional qualifying marks nationally. In 2016, he helped guide Ashley Davis to the NCAA National Meet, the first ever since the return of track and field to West Georgia. In addition, 13 different athletes have been named NCAA All-Region in the short run of women's track and field at UWG.

Under his guidance in cross country, more than 10 athletes have been named All-Gulf South Conference, split between the men's and women's squads. On the academic front, Brooks' teams have been outstanding, earning recognition with the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II All-Academic Award eight different times during his tenure (six women, two men).

"We wish Tim well and thank him for his time and efforts with both of these programs," concluded Dickey.

The university will start a national search for its next head coach immediately. Any interest or questions regarding the search should be directed to Athletic Director Daryl Dickey at ddickey@westga.edu.
