The West Georgia Wolves’ offense has posted impressive numbers the past three seasons under the direction of coordinator Sam Gregg. More fireworks are expected in 2017 as Gregg returns to direct the offense, and to mentor the fullbacks in the UWG attack.

Gregg has left his mark on GSC Football for many years, including several before his tenure at UWG. This season is the veteran coach’s 12th in the nation’s premier Division II league. Beyond his four here at UWG, Gregg also coached six seasons on the staff at West Alabama, and spent two years at former GSC member Arkansas-Monticello.

When former head coach Will Hall brought him to UWG 2014, Gregg had already established a precedent for potent, record breaking attacks. That success has continued with the Wolves.

The assault on the UWG record book has included many new team and individual records. The results included a pair of NCAA Division II Super Region 2 titles, and the school’s first GSC crown in 15 years.

Individual honors have also been plentiful. During Gregg’s six prior seasons as an offensive coordinator in the GSC his units have produced 47 all-conference players. That includes seven All-GSC choices a year ago at UWG, including a pair of All-America linemen: center Harley Vaughan and tackle Austin Kastl.

New coach David Dean was excited to retain Gregg as the Wolves’ offensive coordinator for a fourth straight season. Beyond those duties, Gregg will also this year mentor UWG’s fullbacks.

Prior to his arrival at UWG, Gregg spent six seasons at West Alabama. That includes three as the Tigers’ offensive line coach before he was promoted to the offensive coordinator spot.

Before his years at UWA, Gregg was an assistant coach at Arkansas-Monticello and Southwest Baptist. He also served as a graduate assistant at Division I Memphis, and coached at Mississippi Juco power Itawamba Community College.

Gregg is a 2002 graduate of Murray State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. Gregg and wife Mandy have one son: Britt.
