Darius Safford

Position: Cornerbacks

Newcomer Darius Safford joins the UWG coaching staff for the 2017 season. He will work with the defensive staff and coach the Wolves’ cornerbacks this fall.

Safford previously served as a graduate assistant coach on the staff at Division I Georgia Southern. There he assisted the Eagles secondary and helped with opponent breakdown, scout team responsibilities, and with academic monitoring.

As a player, Safford was a standout at two institutions. He was a tri-captain at Lafayette (Pa.), and earned All-Patriot League honors for the Leopards. With his degree and a year of eligibility remaining, he transferred back to his home state and played his senior year at Georgia Southern. He had 21 tackles and four pass breakups for the Eagles.

Safford is a native of nearby Douglasville and prepped at Alexander High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in History and African Studies from Lafayette. Safford also earned his master’s degree in Sport and Fitness Administration/Management from Georgia Southern.
