CARROLLTON, Ga. – After a much longer wait than normal, the UWG women’s golf team is set to open the season this weekend as they look to defend their title at the Battle at Old South in Bluffton, S.C. on September 23-24 as they oficially begin the Todd Selders era.

The Wolves were scheduled to begin the season last week in Calera, Ala., but Hurricane Irma cancelled that tournament, forcing the Wolves to delay the start of the season.

Eighteen teams join together in Bluffton for the Battle at Old South hosted by UNC-Pembroke this weekend. The Wolves are joined by fellow Gulf South Conference teams Lee and Shorter in the field.

Three of the Wolves’ five starters from last season’s GSC Championship squad return for the 2017-18 season, including two-time GSC Player of the Year Franziska Bremm who will be in the number one spot this weekend as she begins her junior season.

Senior All-Gulf South Conference performer Maria Torres will open the season in the number two spot for new head coach Todd Selders and the Wolves.

Grace Gildner who redshirted in 2016-17, is in the third spot as she sees her first action since the 2015-16 season. Junior Jordan Daniel is in the fourth spot, as she is the third returner from last year’s lineup that claimed the first GSC Golf Title in school history and made the NCAA Regionals for the first time.

Sophomore Layne Carter wraps up the lineup for West Georgia as she plays in her ninth career tournament and just her fourth career start in the lineup.

The Wolves are scheduled to kick off the campaign tomorrow morning beginning at 9:40 a.m., playing with Coker and Lenoir-Rhyne in the opening round.
