CARROLLTON, Ga. – The UWG men’s golf team is set to host the Matt Dyas Invitational this week at Oak Mountain Championship Golf Course as the Wolves welcome teams from all over the area for their annual fall home tournament.

 

West Georgia welcomes 14 teams to Carrollton this Monday and Tuesday for the Matt Dyas Invitational, a 54-hole stroke play event at UWG’s home course of Oak Mountain.

 

The Wolves welcomes Mississippi College, Union, West Alabama, Christian Brothers, Lee, and North Alabama from the gulf South Conference while Albany State, North Georgia, Clayton State, and Young Harris join the field as fellow Georgia schools. Lewis, King, Newberry and Tusculum round out the field for this week’s tournament.

 

The defending Champion of the Matt Dyas Invitational, Belmont Abbey, is not in the field, but Newberry, North Alabama, UWG and Young Harris rounded out the top-five last season and are in the tournament this season.

 

Teams are set to play 36 holes tomorrow with the final round set for Tuesday.

 

Sam Jones is the top golfer for the Wolves thus fas this season, as the junior is coming off a 19th place finish at the TVA Credit Union Classic in Kileen, Ala.

 

Practice rounds for all teams are scheduled for Sunday. The Matt Dyas Invitational officially gets underway on Monday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
