Kelsey McClure joins Scott Groninger’s staff for her first year as a graduate assistant in 2017-18. A former prep standout in Oklahoma, McClure played collegiately at Central Arkansas and Arkansas Tech before turning to the coaching ranks.
As a player at Arkansas Tech, McClure averaged 13 points per game with 5 rebounds and three assists per contest. McClure helped the Golden Suns to a Great American Conference championship with a 21-1 regular season record and then went on to win the GAC Tournament in 2015-16. The Arkansas Tech Program also won the GAC’s All-Sport trophy that season. A season later, McClure was named to the GAC All-Tournament Team.
McClure was also a standout in the classroom in her collegiate career as she was on the Dean’s List both years at Arkansas Tech, and was named a GAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete. McClure graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism with a 4.0 GPA being named top of her class with Summa Cum Laude honors.
As a prep player at Muskogee High School, McClure was named a member of the Oklahoma All-State Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association squad. McClure led her team to a 20-7 record and was ranked no. 2 in Class 6A in 2013, and led her team in scoring, averaging 21.5 points per game. She also chipped in with 4.8 rebounds, 2.6 steals, and 2.5 assists per contest.
Additionally, McClure was a McDonald’s All-American nominee in high school and was named the Muskogee Phoenix All-Area MVP as a senior on top of being a two-time Muskogee Phoenix All-Area selection. McClure also played AAU ball for Team Arkansas and the Tulsa Dream Team.
