CARROLLTON, Ga. – A new direction for the University of West Georgia volleyball program begins on December 8, 2017, as Athletic Director Daryl Dickey announced on Friday afternoon that Jon Moseley will become the ninth head coach in program history.

“What an exciting opportunity and a new day for West Georgia volleyball,” Dickey said. “Jon is a tremendous coach who has Gulf South Conference championship experience and I expect him to be able to take our volleyball program and make it into a contender both in the conference and nationally.”

Moseley comes to West Georgia following 12 years as the head coach at Shorter University in Rome, Ga., where he amassed a record of 85-25 against Gulf South Conference competition over the past six seasons. He has compiled a 278-116 record during his 12-year tenure at Shorter and is the winningest coach in Hawks volleyball history. His team was the regular season GSC Champion in 2014 and 2016, and he was voted GSC Coach of the Year in 2016. In 2014, the Hawks reached the NCAA tournament in their first year of eligibility.

“I’m extremely excited to become a part of a university, an athletics department, and a city that are so clearly on the rise,” said Moseley. “My family and I are extremely grateful to coach Dickey, Mrs. (Laura) Eady, Mr. (Jim) Sutherland and Dr. (Kyle) Marrero, for giving us this opportunity. I’m ready to get started in building a championship-caliber program on and off the court.”

In his tenure as a Division II volleyball coach, Moseley has defeated five teams ranked in the AVCA NCAA Division II Top-25 Coaches’ Poll, coached two NCAA All-Americans, 10 All-GSC performers, four Academic All-GSC performers and had 87 GSC Academic Honor Roll selections. The Honor Roll selections were the most of any league school during that period (2012-16). In 2012, Shorter's volleyball team won the NCCAA South Region title, and took runner-up honors at the national tournament. In his first season as head coach in 2006, Moseley led the Lady Hawks to a 22-8 record, which at the time was the best mark in program history. For his efforts that year, Moseley was named the SSAC Coach of the Year.

In 2007, Moseley’s fifth-seeded Lady Hawks captured the program’s first SSAC Tournament championship and advanced to the NAIA Volleyball National Championship.

Prior to his collegiate experience at Shorter, Moseley was the head volleyball coach at Guntersville High School in Guntersville, Ala. At Guntersville, he coached his teams to back-to-back Alabama Group AAAA state championships in 2004 and 2005. Prior to his time in Guntersville, Moseley served as the head volleyball coach at Cherokee County High School in Centre, Ala. There, Moseley’s teams advanced to the Elite Eight six times, including Final Four appearances in 1998 and 2003, with trips to the state championship game in 1999, 2001 and 2002. He was named the Gadsden Times Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2005 and the Marshall County Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

Moseley graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a minor in Latin American Studies. He earned his Master of Education degree in Secondary Education from Vanderbilt in 1998.

Moseley married the former Ana Oliver in the summer of 2011. In 2013, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Ada Caroline and their second child, James Daniel, arrived in December of 2015.
