CARROLLTON, Ga. – Head coach Dave Moore has announced the signing of a pair of prep school standouts as his first recruits since taking over the West Georgia Wolves’ men’s basketball program.
The first to cast his lot with UWG was Tomasso Gini, a 6-8, 210-pound forward. A native of Italy, Gini comes to UWG following a season immersed in the American game at the highest level. He spent last year as a student and player at prestigious IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
“We’re excited to add Tomasso to the 2018 recruiting class,” says Moore of his first signee. He adds, “Tommaso is a skilled 6-8 forward with a high basketball IQ and a great feel for the game. He comes from one of the best prep schools in the country and will be ready to contribute right away as a freshman.”
UWG’s second signee will play in the backcourt. Moore added Jared Simmons, a 6-1, 170-pound guard from Newington, Conn. Simmons was an all-state prep standout at Newington High, where he graduated in 2017. Last year he prepped at SPIRE Institute in Ohio.
“Jared is a 2/1 combo guard who can really shoot the ball,” says Moore. The coach adds, “He played at a very high level last season at SPIRE and has a chance to be a very good player in the Gulf South Conference. Jared has a very high ceiling in terms of his potential and it is our job to help him achieve to that potential.”
Moore and assistant coach Andy Young are still very busy in their recruiting campaign. “We are working to add one more critical piece,” said Moore in a recent interview.
