CARROLLTON, Ga. – After six games away from home to start the 2018 season, the UWG Soccer team is finally set to play on the pitch at University Field on Friday as the Wolves host fourth-ranked West Florida in a 5 p.m. kickoff.

The Wolves got some momentum going last weekend as they jumped out to a 2-0 start in Gulf South Conference play with wins over Montevallo and Auburn-Montgomery. Six different Wolves netted goals as UWG out-scored their opponents 6-2 over the weekend.

Senior Julia Atenza and sophomore Jazmine Santiago have the early team lead in points with three as each have a goal and an assist to their credit.

Sophomore keeper Jackie Donaldson is having a stellar season thus far, leading the conference with 48 saves and a .906 save percentage. Donaldson’s goals against average of .775 is second-best in the league.

“I have to give a lot of credit to my team and my coaches,” said Donaldson of her recent play in goal, “We come out here and work hard every day, and Coach Ben puts me through good training each day, and I think that’s made me a better keeper.”

Donaldson and the Wolves back line face a tough test this Friday when they host Grace Busby and the fourth-ranked Argonauts. Busby leads the league with six goals scored through six games in 2018.

“They’ve got a lot of quality in their team,” said head coach Stacey Balaam of the Argos, “They’ve got some really outstanding individuals, and they’re always so competitive. We’ve just got to try and break them down and we’re going to work hard on the training field to prepare for that game.”

West Georgia will then remain home for a Sunday contest with Spring Hill in a p.m. game. The Badgers are 1-4 on the season entering this weekend and coming off of a 1-1 start in Gulf South Conference play. SHC will take on Valdosta State on Friday evening before making the trip to Carrollton.

Kickoff for Friday’s home opener against West Florida is set for 5 p.m. from University Field in Carrollton.
