Carrollton, GA – After earning All-Gulf South Conference honors as a high scoring guard a season ago, Marquill Smith is racking up points at an even higher rate this season for the West Georgia Wolves. His impressive numbers have resulted in top weekly honors from the Gulf South Conference.

Smith was named Tuesday as the GSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week following his performances in last week’s pair of games for the Wolves. He posted 24 in last Tuesday’s setback at North Georgia, and then followed up with a 30-point outburst in UWG’s 83-74, Saturday win over Johnson C. Smith.

Smith, a senior from Miami Gardens, Fla., has scored at least 24 points in each of UWG’s six games this season. He leads the GSC in scoring with an average of 27.2 points per game, and is tied for the 10th in the conference in rebounding at 6.7 per game. Also, he ranks in the league’s top 10 in both three-point field goals, and three-point field goal percentage on the season.

A year ago Smith was honored as an All-Gulf South Conference First Team member. He also was a first team member of the Conference Commissioners’ Association All-South Region Team.

UWG, now 3-3 on the season, returns to action Thursday in their Gulf South Conference opener for the 2018-19 season. The Wolves face the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers (4-1) in an 8:30 contest at Spragins Hall in Huntsville.
