CARROLLTON, Ga. - The West Georgia Wolves lost a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena in Memphis, Tenn., falling in overtime 71-67 to the Christian Brothers Lady Buccaneers in Gulf South Conference action.

Trailing by three in regulation, Aysha Harris buried a three-pointer to tie the game at 62-62, but a 9-0 CBU run to close out the overtime period was too much to overcome for the Wolves.

The Wolves came out of the gate firing on all points, building a 9-0 lead in the first four minutes of the contest. Jessica Brown was the driving force in that lead, scoring five of the Wolves' first nine points. But Christian Brothers came roaring back, outscoring the Wolves 14-5 over the final six minutes of the first quarter and the two teams went into the second quarter tied at 14-14.

CBU continued their run, outscoring the Wolves 16-9 in the first nine minutes of the second period to take a 30-23 lead with just over a minute left in the first half. The Wolves picked up one more bucket before halftime, and West Georgia went into the break trailing the Bucs 30-25.

In the third quarter, the Wolves started the period with a 14-9 run, tying up the game at 39-39 with just under five minutes remaining in the quarter. The Wolves continued to push and with Jessica Brown leading the way with 20 points in the first three quarters, took a 49-48 lead into the final quarter.

The two teams battled back-and-forth over the final quarter with Christian Brothers holding the upper-hand for much of the period. A'Kia Harris and Jessica Brown kept things going in the period, with Harris picking up her 10th rebound of the game and claiming her first double-double of the year. With 17 seconds left, Aysha Harris knocked down a huge three-pointer, tying the game at 62-62 and setting up a wild finish.

In the overtime period, the Wolves came out hot, as Brown buried her fifth three-pointer of the game on the Wolves' first possession of the extra period. A'Kia Harris then added a layup and the Wolves led by five with 3:30 left in the overtime period. Christian Brothers then returned the favor and went one better, going on a 6-0 run that ended with an "old-fashioned" three-point play with 43 seconds left in the game to give the Bucs a 68-67 lead. CBU then scored four more over the final minute to take the victory.

Brown led all UWG scorers with 25 points, followed by A'Kia Harris with 19 points and Aysha Harris with 10 points. The Wolves fall to 11-8 on the year and 6-7 against GSC opponents, and will take on Valdosta State next Thursday evening in Carrollton.
