GULF SHORES, Ala. – A dominating performance by the West Georgia Wolves wrapped up a solid opening weekend for the UWG Softball team as the Wolves defeated Spring Hill 8-0 in five innings on Sunday to finish out the Gulf Coast Invitational.

The Wolves capitalized on seven errors by Spring Hill, and rode solid pitching and error-free defense on their way to a 4-1 start to the 2019 season.

Lindsye Jefferson pitched a complete game to earn her second win of the season, allowing seven hits on the day while throwing five shutout innings and striking out two.

West Georgia got on the board in the third inning, scoring four runs on two hits and two errors. It all began with an Allie Parkerson leadoff double and an Ashley Ellison single. Alley Taylor then drove in Parkerson with a ground out, and the following three runs came on a pair of Badger errors.

Another error in the fourth resulted in the fifth UWG run, as Brooke Parker put the ball in play scoring Parkerson on a throwing error by the Spring Hill pitcher.

Madison Chambers doubled home Peyton Stallworth to push across the sixth run and then sophomore Lexi Close ended it with a deep home run to straight away center, her first of the season, making it 8-0 and ending the game after five innings.

Ellison led the way with a 2-for-2 performance while four other Wolves had hits.

The Wolves start the season 4-1 with their lone loss coming Saturday against Lander. West Georgia next travels to Clearwater, Florida for another tournament hosted by the NFCA.
