CARROLLTON, Ga. – Late into the night in Pensacola, Florida, the West Georgia Wolves softball team completed the next step in their quest to a Gulf South Conference Championship as the Wolves defeated West Alabama 10-2 in five innings to punch their ticket to Sunday’s Championship Game.

After a lengthy weather delay pushed today’s scheduled 4 p.m. EST start all the way to 11:15 p.m., the Wolves made quick work of the Tigers thanks to an offensive outburst and another gutsy performance from junior Morgan Goree.

Goree was stellar on the day, settling in for another complete game win after giving up a two-run homer to Kierra Hague in the first inning. The UWG offense had Goree’s back though as in the first, Raven Smith got on with a double and scored on a Madison Chambers sac fly and added two more on the second home run of the tournament by Lexi Close.

The Wolves added three more in the second top open up a 6-2 lead as Stallworth walked to leadoff the inning and came in to score on a RBI triple from Madison Slappey. Hannah Scarbrough then singled down the first base line to drive in Slappey and then scored herself as Allie Parkerson picked up an RBI with a single up the middle.

Slappey led off the fourth with one of her three hits on the day, and would then score on an RBI double from Raven Smith. Parkerson then drove in another run and Madison Chambers added a third in the inning to make it a 9-2 West Georgia lead.

Peyton Stallworth led off the fifth with a double, and scored on a Slappey single to end the game in the fifth with a 10-2 run-rule victory.

Goree earned her 12th win of the year with five innings pitched, four strikeouts, and just three hits allowed in the game.

West Georgia’s one, two, and three hitters each had two hits in the game and the one through five spots had eight of UWG’s 10 RBI on the day while Madison Slappey finished 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI from the nine spot in the lineup.

The Wolves now advance to take on top seed West Florida tomorrow in a winner-take-all Championship Game. First pitch for that game is set for 1:30 p.m. EST from the UWF Softball Complex.
