CARROLLTON, Ga. – Two UWG track and field athletes were recently honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as All-Region selections as Amina Saunders and Merica Valdez each earned the distinction.

Saunders, a senior from Miami, Florida was All-Region in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles, and had a top time in the 400m hurdles of 1:01.31 which hit an NCAA Provisional mark. It was the fourth All-Region honor in Saunders’ career as she was also named All-Region in the 400m hurdles after the 2015, 2016, and 2017 seasons.

For Valdez, a newcomer this spring, she wrapped up her first season in Carrollton earning All-Region honors in the pole vault. Valdez was in the top-five in every event in the pole vault, including two individual wins. Valdez’s top jump came at the Emory Invitational where she hit 3.60m to finish second.

West Georgia’s Track and Field Program has now had nine USTFCCCA All-Region performers since its inception in 2013.
