CARROLLTON, Ga. - Athletes from the University of West Georgia recently completed one of the most successful years in program history in the classroom, as nine UWG squads held a team GPA of 3.0 or higher from August to May graduation. That propelled the Wolves to a GPA of 2.91 across all sports, the highest in school history.
As a group, the 13 NCAA sports sponsored by the University of West Georgia held a GPA of 2.98 during the spring semester, also a school record. The spring semester was fueled by 10 different teams earning a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Women's and men's golf, women's and men's cross-country, volleyball, women's soccer, softball, women's basketball, women's tennis, and baseball all achieved a 3.0 GPA in the spring. Nine teams were in that spot in the fall semester, with men's cross-country checking in at just under 3.0 in that term.
The golf program produced the highest team GPA in the 2018-19 academic year, with women's golf finishing the year with a 3.61 team GPA. The ladies had a 3.67 GPA in the fall semester followed by a 3.56 in the spring, both the highest among the UWG athletic teams. Men's golf was just behind with a 3.66 team GPA in the fall and a 3.50 in the spring, combining for a 3.58 GPA over the course of the year.
Volleyball was second among UWG teams in the spring semester with a 3.55 team GPA and finished narrowly behind men's golf with a 3.54 overall GPA for the year. Women's soccer finished fourth with a 3.39 team GPA and women's softball rounded out the top-five with a 3.37 GPA.
