CARROLLTON, Ga. – A critical game awaits the UWG women’s basketball team as the Wolves are set for the first of three straight road games on Thursday as they take on the Lee Flames from Walker Arena in Cleveland, Tennessee at 6 p.m. on January 10.
Thursday’s game features the top two defenses in the Gulf South Conference as West Georgia ranks second allowing 55.8 points per game and Lee is the top defense in the league allowing 51.6 per game. The Wolves are 19th in the nation in scoring defense while the Flames rank fifth in Division II.
Additionally, the Wolves and Flames have the two longest current winning streaks in the league, as West Georgia has won five straight games and Lee enters the contest as winners of each of their last four.
The Wolves are coming off of a huge 65-59 win over Delta State at home on Monday night and will look to ride that momentum into Thursday. The Flames are also riding high after their last road trip included an upset win over top-ranked and previously unbeaten Union on the road.
Senior Aysha Harris currently leads West Georgia in scoring at 11.3 points per game, followed by Edley Drawhorn with 9.5 per contest.
For the Flames, it’s Abby Bertram who leads Lee on offense, scoring 13.6 points per game and shooting 39 percent from three-point range.
