CARROLLTON, Ga. - Home game No. 4 for the West Georgia Wolves in the 2018 football season was a success, as the fifth-ranked Wolves blasted North Greenville 31-7 in Gulf South Conference play. For his performance on Saturday, senior linebacker Barron Burns was named the Southern States Bank Player of the Game.
Burns had a solid game against the Crusaders, especially against the pass. Tasked with coverage of the North Greenville tight end Bobby Foos for the bulk of the game, Burns did not disappoint. Foos had no receptions in the game, thanks in large part to Burns, who had two pass breakups and an interception in the game. The interception was a dagger for the Wolves, as Burns returned the pick 47 yards for a touchdown, giving the Wolves a 17-0 lead in the second quarter.
As a team, West Georgia allowed 171 offensive yards to North Greenville on Saturday at University Stadium, including just 119 yards through the air. The Wolves head south this weekend for a top-10 matchup on ESPN3, as the Wolves take on eighth-ranked West Florida in a rematch from the 2017 playoffs.
