CARROLLTON, Ga. – With the 2019 UWG soccer season just under two months away, head coach Stacey Balaam has finalized her staff with the addition of Renee Vanhorn as the Wolves’ graduate assistant.

Vanhorn comes to UWG after completing her collegiate career at North Georgia where she played for Balaam in her first two seasons in Dahlonega. In four years, Vanhorn was a two-time All-Southeast Region performer and was named All-Peach Belt twice as well. In her career, she scored 31 goals and recorded 17 assists while setting the career penalty kicks record, converting five goals on five attempts.

“I am really pleased that Renee is joining our coaching staff. She was a lead-by-example captain and had a decorative playing career at UNG,” said head coach Stacey Balaam.

Off the field, Vanhorn excelled as she was named PBC All-Academic Team three seasons and was a three-time selection to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll. Additionally, Vanhorn was awarded the NCAA Women’s Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship and was a nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year.

At UNG, she was the recipient of the UNG LeeAnn Noble Nighthawk Service Award and the Women of UNG Leadership Award.

“Not only was Renee a successful student-athlete but also a great ambassador to the school. She served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, representing her institution at leadership conferences and was heavily involved in community engagement,” added Balaam. “I am excited for Renee to not only expand her abilities as a coach but also help with community projects and marketing schemes.”

VanHorn will join Balaam and Ben Chedgy who returns for his third season as UWG’s assistant coach.
