CARROLLTON, Ga. - Because of the pending impact of Hurricane Irma, the University of West Georgia will be closed on Monday, Sept. 11, and Tuesday, Sept. 12. All classes, campus events and activities will be canceled during this time.

This announcement, released late on Saturday by university administration officials, has forced cancellations among all UWG teams. Any practices for the next two days have been cancelled, but three programs have had to cancel NCAA competition. First to cancel was the men's and women's golf programs, as the Blue Moon BBQ Invitational, hosted by the University of Montevallo, was canceled on Saturday.

Also a part of the cancellations is Tuesday night's volleyball trip to Georgia College, as the Wolves were set to play their fifth match since Friday. As of this time, there are no announced plans to attempt to replace that match in the schedule.

One fan event scheduled for this week will also be impacted by the UWG cancellation, as the first Coaches Luncheon of the new athletic year was scheduled for Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. That event has been cancelled for now and will be rescheduled for a time to be published later.

The next scheduled event for a UWG athletic program is soccer taking on Georgia College at home on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
