CARROLLTON, Ga. – After five straight home games, the UWG soccer team takes back to the road for a two-game trip for a pair of tough Gulf South Conference matches at West Florida and Valdosta State.

The Wolves will be in Pensacola, Fla. for a 6 p.m. matchup with the West Florida on Argos before heading east for a bout with in-state rival Valdosta State on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The weekend has huge postseason implications as UWG is just one point behind West Florida in the GSC standings with just four regular season games remaining for West Georgia. UWG is currently seventh in the standings, looking to remain in the top eight spots to earn a third straight berth in the GSC Tournament.

West Georgia is coming off of a 4-0 win over Delta State on Sunday, a game in which the Wolves controlled for all 90 minutes despite nasty weather conditions. That win improved UWG to 6-6 overall and 5-5 in the Gulf South Conference.

The Argos enter Friday’s matchup with an 8-3-1 record overall and a 5-2-1 record in league play. UWF got a crucial win on Wednesday, defeating Montevallo 1-0 at home. Three Argos are currently tied for the team lead in goals as Leonie Kreil, Deneisha Blackwood, and Jessica Quixley each have five goals on the year.

Valdosta State also got a win on Wednesday, defeating Auburn-Montgomery by a 6-0 final. The Blazers are 9-3-1 overall and sit at 7-2-1 in league play. Taylor Snell leads VSU in scoring and is tied for the GSC lead with nine goals on the season.

The Wolves will have their hands full this weekend as they take on two quality opponents on the road. Kickoff for Friday’s game in Pensacola is set for 6 p.m. EST with Sunday’s game set to kickoff at 1 p.m. from Valdosta, Ga.
