CARROLLTON, Ga. - UWG Senior quarterback Willie Candler has earned his first Offensive Player of the Week award for the 2019 season after a stellar performance against the North Greenville Crusaders this past Saturday on the road.
The award is the sixth weekly award for Candler in his career at West Georgia, including his fourth Offensive Player of the Week honor. He was named GSC Freshman of the Week during the 2016 season. It is also the second award for a UWG player this season, as running back Chauncey Williams was named GSC Offensive Player of the Week after the Limestone game.
Candler was 25-for-41 for 327 yards and four touchdowns through the air against North Greenville this past weekend, marking the second consecutive game where the senior has passed for 300 yards and the third time this season. On his second touchdown of the game, Candler broke the all-time record for touchdown passes at West Georgia and he enters the seventh game of the season with 67 passing touchdowns in his career.
In addition to his aerial attack, Candler was a big factor in the running game as well, carrying the ball five times for 41 yards and a touchdown. His efforts in both sides of the game led the Wolves to a 500-yard offensive game for the second-straight week.
The Wolves will be back on the field this weekend, taking on West Florida in the annual UWG Homecoming Game.
