CARROLLTON, Ga. – The regular season ended on a sour note for the UWG Wolves soccer team as West Georgia fell 2-1 to 24th-ranked North Alabama in Gulf South Conference action on Thursday afternoon.

West Georgia got off to the lead first as the Wolves converted an opening goal in the 16th minute to take the 1-0 lead. Madison Cobb sent in a cross from the right side that found the foot of Francessca Ellis who buried the goal to give UWG the lead.

Six minutes later, it was the GSC’s leader in goals who tied things up for North Alabama, as Kylie Huey chipped one in to put North Alabama on the board in the 21st minute.

Coming out of halftime, the Wolves and Lions played a defensive battle for the majority of the period before UNA broke through with an 82nd minute game-winner. Huey found Michelle Hunter in the box who scored the goal for UNA.

The Wolves led the game in shots, shots on goal, and corners, but couldn’t connect on enough of their chances as UWG falls to 8-8 on the year and 7-7 in GSC play.

While the regular season may be over, the Wolves will continue on as they now know they will enter the Gulf South Conference Tournament as the eighth seed next Tuesday. Their opponent remains unknown as the one seed is yet to be locked down.
