CARROLLTON, Ga. - A tough non-conference opponent awaits the UWG Wolves as they return home for Tuesday baseball, as he North Georgia Nighthawks visit Carrollton to play a game added to the schedule after a rainout postponed the originally scheduled game. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Cole Field.

UWG needs a good performance against North Georgia to help build momentum following a tough weekend series at North Alabama. The Wolves dropped each-of-three weekend games at UNA, sending their season record to 21-15 and dropping their GSC mark to 9-12. West Georgia remained in the national RPI scene this week, however, ranked 24th in the nation in that poll. The formula used is a team’s winning percentage (25%), opponents’ winning percentage (aka strength of schedule) (50%) and the winning percentage of those opponents’ opponents (25%).

North Georgia, meanwhile, comes to Carrollton as one of the hottest Division II teams in the southeast. The Nighthawks have won 10-of-11 games since March 21, a streak that began with a wild, 14-13 home win over UWG. For the year, North Georgia is 21-13, 13-8 in Peach Belt Conference play. In the first meeting at North Georgia, the Wolves twice enjoyed three-run leads, but neither lasted.

All three UWG outfielders, left fielder Brady Barnes, center fielder Cade Marlowe, and right fielder Christopher Michals all had three-hit games. Also, Marlowe and catcher Price Peters had three runs batted in in that contest.

Tuesday’s game is this week’s only midweek action for UWG, as Wednesday’s scheduled home game vs. Clark Atlanta has been cancelled. West Georgia returns to GSC play this weekend when the rival Valdosta State Blazers visit Carrollton. The Wolves and Blazers are scheduled to play a Saturday double header, followed by a single game on Sunday. However, the likelihood of inclement weather could force yet another shuffling of the schedule. Athletic officials from both schools, and the GSC, will monitor weather forecasts and have a final decision on the weekend schedule later this week.
