Carrollton, GA – The UWG Wolves’ leader of last week’s Mississippi sweep has received honors from the Gulf South Conference. Marquill Smith was selected Tuesday as GSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Smith, a junior from Miami Gardens, Fla., was a major offensive force in both of last week’s victories. He scored 19 points on seven-of-12 shooting, including three, three-pointers, in Thursday’s victory at Delta State. Smith’s numbers in Saturday’s victory at Mississippi College were even more impressive: 31 points, eight rebounds, and six steals as the Wolves topped the Choctaws.

Big numbers are nothing new for Smith. His performance vs. Mississippi College marked the third time this season that he has topped the 30-point plateau, and he has scored in double figures in all but one game this season. Smith leads UWG in scoring at 22.1 points per game, and he leads the team in rebounds with 8.1 per contest.

Smith and his UWG teammates return to action Thursday as the rival Valdosta State Blazers visit The Coliseum. Tip time is set for 7:30 p.m.
