Welcome to the second edition of the Weekly Wolf. This week we have a lot of athletic events taking place with football, volleyball, cross country and the opening week for our women's soccer team.

Soccer will kickoff the 2017 campaign under new Head Coach Stacey Balaam this Wednesday at home against 13th-ranked North Georgia. This match will start a stretch of four matches in eight days for the Wolves. The Wovles will also return to home action on Friday against Union in the GSC Opener at 5 pm and then again on SUnday against Christian Brothers at noon.

This week we will be having our first Big Blue Friday as participating partners from around town will be award you with perks for showing your Big Blue pride. Be sure to check uwgsports.com for more details.

With last weeks outstanding performance, Deandre Gardenhire was chosen as the GSC Freshman of the Week. Deandre had six tackles, one for a loss and became the fourth player on the current roster to earn the award from the GSC.

For football this week we are having our first Saturday game of the year and our second-straight night game. We will be playing host to the Miles Golden Bears at 7 p.m. Parking will be $5 and tailgating opens at 4 p.m. At 5 p.m. The Hill will open with food and drink being provided by our great partners Papa John's and Monster Energy Drink. At 5:30 p.m. be sure to join us at Wolf Plaza as we welcome head coach David Dean and the players at the Wolf Walk. This week at the Wolf Walk, Stanley and Black and Decker NASCAR's will be on display along the Wolf Walk.

For those groups who would like to tailgate on the hill this week, Deantown will be open from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Deantown is your opportunity to bring your tailgate stuff out early, claim your spot and make it so that all you have to bring on Saturday is the people.

Be on the lookout this Saturday as the Junior Wolves will be back this week after being canceled last minute last week. We will have the bounce houses and your weekly craft, and all of this can be yours for the low price of $10. The $10 will get you acess to the bounce houses and entry into the game for children ages 5-12 for the entire year.

The devastation that took place with Hurricane Harvey in Texas last week has been horrifying to watch, and we would like to help in some small way. There will be receptacles outside the gates as you come into University Stadium on Saturday for our fans to donate supplies and clothes to the Hurricane Relief effort. We are appreciative of the generosity of our fans and hope that we can do just a little bit to help those who have been affected by that storm.

This week will be the 20th anniversary of one of the most horrible events to happen to students at the University of West Georgia, as in 1997, the UWG Cheer program was nearly wiped out by a terrible van accident. There have been multiple events that have been scheduled for this week, and we are honored to have a cheer reunion this Saturday on the grounds in the UWG Athletic Complex. Among those who will be at the reunion will be survivors from that crash, as well as the champions who followed and have ruled UCA Cheerleading since then. I do believe that Alumni is handling the reunion, so if you have questions about it, please contact the Alumni Association for more details.
