Carrollton, GA – Three UWG Wolves football standouts were named Wednesday to the Gulf South Conference Fireseeds Fall All-Academic Team. Center Harley Vaughan, fullback Noah Brown, and receiver-punt returner K.J. Parmer were selected for the honor from the GSC.
The team was selected in a joint vote of Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) and Sports Information Directors (SIDs) from each of the GSC's football playing institutions. Nominees to the team must have a cumulative collegiate grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.20, and they must have been a major on-field contributor to their respective teams.
Vaughan, a junior from Dawsonville, is on the all-academic team for the second consecutive year. His classroom resume is impressive: a 3.54 GPA while majoring in Management. On the field, Vaughan is a two-time All-GSC performer, and has been named all-region and honorable mention All-America during his career. Also, he was the GSC Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2014.
Brown and Parmer are both first time selections to the GSC All-Academic Team. A sophomore from Bremen, Brown majors in Sport Management and has a 3.58 GPA. He is a two-year letterman and was the regular fullback for UWG during the 2016 season.
Parmer, a sophomore from Lawrenceville, is majoring in Accounting and boasts 3.34 GPA. He emerged as UWG's top return specialist in 2016, and saw regular action off the bench as part of the team's rotation of wide receivers last season.
Beyond their selections to the GSC All-Academic Team, Vaughan, Brown, and Parmer head UWG's list of student-athletes on the 2016 GSC Fireseeds Fall Academic Honor Roll. A total of 39 performers from UWG's five fall sports earned honor roll notice. Any student-athlete who participated in his-or-her sport, and has a cumulative GPA of 3.0, or above, is automatically placed on the honor roll. No vote is required.
