JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – A first round 309 on Monday places the UWG women’s golf team in fourth place at the Jekyll-O-Lantern Intercollegiate at Jekyll Island Golf Club.

 

Freshman Maddy Schultz continued her solid play as of late, finishing the opening round with a pair of birdies on her way to a two-over round of 74. Schultz is tied for fifth individually with 18 holes to play tomorrow.

 

Michelle Bagsic made three birdies in her first round, but finished with a 76 to sit in a 14th place tie. Two shots behind her was freshman Katherine Densmore who also had three birdies, but was four-over on the front nine and finished with a 78, good for a 25th place tie.

 

Two double bogeys made for a tough opening round for Ari Samuel who shot nine-over on Monday, tying for 50th with an 81. Senior Layne Marie Carter rounded out the lineup with an 82 on Monday and begins the final round in a tie for 57th.

 

West Georgia’s 21-over total of 309 is seven shots behind the team leader, North Georgia. UNG’s Carson Roberts fired a 72 in the opening round and leads individually by a shot.

 

The final round is set for tomorrow from Jekyll Island Golf Club.
