ROME, Ga. - The Wolves Track and Field team will head to Berry College this weekend to compete at the Victor Icebreaker Duals.
This is a meet where the Wolves have had success done very well at this meet in past years, and the Wolves look to continue that success this weekend. There will be familiar competition such as Berry, Oglethorpe, Tuskegee and Clayton State, including Gulf South Conference competitors Shorter and Lee.
The Wolves are looking to build on a first place finish at the Cougar Invite last week. "The team is still excited about the big win last week. I am hoping to capitalize on the momentum we have and expect some great performances on Saturday,” said head coach Ryan Bailey.
Senior Amina Saunders dominates in the hurdles as she starts the season strong with a time of 15.41 in the 100m hurdles and 1:07.55 in the 400m hurdles, to win both events last week. She has both of the school records that she set last season later in the year. Kennedy Davis will also be competing in the hurdles at the Victor Icebreaker Duals this weekend.
The Wolves will be strong in the 100m and 200m this weekend with four athletes racing in each. In the 100m this weekend Dawn McCaskill, Rolayo Roberts, Makalah Cannon, and Alexis Dukes will be racing, along with Dawn McCaskill, Emani Collins, Elizabeth Folsom, and Nikkita Gordon running the 200m dash.
This will be the first meet this season that the Wolves will compete in the steeple chase, which Alexis Smith will be racing in. For the 1500m race McKenzie Morse, Amie Wimberly, Alexis Smith and D’erika Montford will be running. Also, Bailey Roberts and Shelby Parsekian will be racing in the 5000m.
Senior, Trisan Haughton, leads the Wolves in the jumps with a mark of 1.60m in the high jump and 5.08m in the long jump taking first in both at the last meet. Joining Haughton in the high jump this week is Alexis Alofuokhai. Joining Haughton in the long jump this week are China Amey, Andrea Foster, and Paige Peterson.
Freshman, Paige Peterson, is also a leader for the Wolves in triple jump with a jump of 11.23m for her first outdoor jump of her collegiate career.
Senior Caitlin Teknipp started the season throwing 27.08m in the javelin and 34.62m in the discus. Sophomore Nya Moses threw the shot put 11.50m for a team best this season.
Teknipp and Moses will be throwing the discus again this weekend. Hannah West will be joining the two in the shot put and hammer. Along with Teknipp, Paige Berriochoa, Trisan Haughton, and Bre Kittles will be throwing the javelin this weekend.
