ROME, Ga. – UWG Track and Field will head to Berry College this weekend to compete at the Victor Icebreaker Duals.
The Wolves have performed very well and have been very successful at this meet in past years, and they look to continue that this weekend. This will be the first outdoor meet where the women will get to go up against some GSC competition including Shorter and Lee. Among other schools, Mercer, Georgia College, and North Georgia will be in the race for first.
Last week in Columbus, the Wolves claimed top honors with the multiple event champions. This week with a little more competition here is who to look out for:
Paige Berriochoa placed first in the javelin at the Cougar Invitational and is seeded 4th this weekend. In the long jump, Aalayla Farr is seeded 6th and 3rd in the triple jump, both of which she took first place in at Columbus. Nadia Davila is seeded 5th after being the only athlete to clear the bar last week. In the pole vault, Merica Valdez and Sydney Ross are ranked 1st and 2nd coming into the Victor Icebreaker Duals.
Amina Saunders and Nadia Davila are top performers for the Wolves in the 100m hurdles seeded 3rd and 5th. Saunders is also the top-ranked for the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.31, three seconds faster than the second seed. In the 100m and 200m dash, Dawn McCaskill competes as the 5th seed in both races.
For the relay teams, the 4x100m relay team is ranked top 10 with Makalah Cannon, Rickia Stafford, Dawn McCaskill, and Rolayo Roberts. Also, the 4x400m relay team is also ranked top 10 with Dawn McCaskill, Ashley Davis, E’Myah Carter, and Amina Saunders.
